Transparency is Golden

Hey hey SANARA, and happy May! A dear friend recently used the term Maycember to refer to the craziness of this month for so many and we thought that felt more than appropriate! So much is going on around us and yet the moment we enter the studio, time stands still. For one hour a day, our minds and souls and hearts get relief as our breath and bodies take over and remind us that there is always a peace to be found in the rhythm and the flow.
We wanted to address a couple things that seem to keep popping up in our line of sight. We are hopeful that our transparency into the business of yoga and not just the practice of yoga will give you the insight you need to make the best decisions for yourself as you continue your practice here with us.
First, many of you are leaving town for weeks or months at a time this summer – YAY for VACAY! We sincerely pray that your journeys are safe, so many wonderful memories are made and that your reset button gets pressed long and hard. And GOSH DANGIT, we will miss you here on the mat! Having said that, we want our doors to still be open when you return! Our operating costs stay basically the same whether you are here or not so that is why we do not “freeze” memberships or turn them on and off around travel schedules. The service providers at your home for cable, internet, or lawn and pool services all still require payment without use while you are gone and that is kind of how we feel too.
Second, some of our teachers will also be hitting their reset buttons this summer – and we cannot think of a better way to restore, refresh, renew and rejuvenate them by giving them a well-needed break! Please know that we do everything possible on our end to provide amazing substitutes. We realize they are not your regular teachers: they will do some things differently than you are used to and that they do not know you by name (yet!). But we are 1000% confident that every one of our subs aligns with our intent and direction for the studio and is a suitable replacement for the regular teacher. You can honor and support SANARA by continuing to show up to your favorite classes, giving the subs a chance and then giving us your feedback!
Lastly, anytime a business in any industry goes through an ownership or leadership transition there is a shifting of both employees and customers. We have spent the last four months trying really hard to make sure the things you know and love at SANARA stay intact. Because our focus has been on the fundamentals - and not on immediately pushing for growth - we have seen more teachers and members leave in the last few months than new ones that have started. We wholeheartedly believe that we are just getting started here and the best is yet to come. We know that once we begin developing our membership strategies and community initiatives - we will have many new excited eyes that will bring us great ideas and expand our offerings in many new ways!
It truly is a slow burn around here right now and while we are completely at peace with that, we do understand it can be uncomfortable. Maybe your class was really small and things felt awkward or maybe your friends have left and you miss practicing with them. We get it - we get really uncomfortable sometimes too - but we know it is ultimately a sign of growth, especially when the numbers do not immediately show it. Thanks so much for sitting with us in the uncomfortable.
